President’s Foreword
2025 -
Gentlemen and friends
Welcome to the 2025 -
I am honoured to be asked to be your president for the coming season and intend to do as good a job as possible for you, whilst enjoying it. I would like to thank my club, Atherley BC, for putting me forward for the position. I would like to pay tribute to the immediate past President Neil Roderick for his efforts over the past year and to wish Vice President, Nigel Bechelet an enjoyable and successful year. A big thanks must also go to all the other officers, especially John Kellow our multi office holder, who work voluntarily and tirelessly in the background, to keep the Association ticking over.
My chosen charity this year is Dementia UK, and I hope you will support me to raise money to support this deserving charity.
I hope that as many of you as possible will support the County through playing in friendly county games both home and away in the coming year. These matches are essential for keeping our beloved game moving along. It is a particularly good way of making new friends from other counties and playing at venues that you may not get the chance to play at otherwise. They are always played in a good spirit with loads of banter and are a pleasure to take part in. We are always looking to get new bowlers involved in these games, so if you have other bowlers at your club who would like to take part then please encourage them to put their names down. I would like to wish the Liberty Trophy, under 60’s, under 25’s and under 18’s teams, plus the Home Counties team, a successful season, as well as hoping that the Patrons section have an enjoyable winter. Having been chair of the Patrons last year, I am aware what enjoyment can be obtained from their matches and again they are looking for new members, so please think about playing for them.
As we are all aware, most clubs are struggling to get new members, so it is up to us all to try and encourage our friends to take up the game that we all love. I look forward to seeing most of you during the season and I hope to play with a good number of you as well.
Good luck to all of you in whichever competitions you decide to enter during the season. But most of all enjoy your bowls and remember, that as competitive as people are, it is only a game at the end of the day.
John Gunson, President
